SP delegation to visit Gorakhpur, Akhilesh accuses Yogi Govt of hiding facts

A total number of 60 deaths have occurred in the past 5 days at Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital

In a development indicating clear negligence by the hospital authorities, a letter by the oxygen supply department in the Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das Medical College's hospital warning about shortage has been recovered.

So far at least 71, including infants, have died from encephalitis at the BRD Medical College hospital.

Most of the deaths were of children admitted to the neonatal and encephalitis wards.

Mritunjaya Singh, whose seven-month-old son was at the hospital but was not among the dead, said: 'That's the time when the death of the children peaked'.

Adityanath also lashed out at the media, saying instead of "doing fake reporting" from outside the hospital without knowing the facts, they "should visit the wards, see the arrangements made for the patients, including the supply of oxygen". Raids have been conducted at the Lucknow-based firm which stopped supply of oxygen to the hospital. District Magistrate, Rajeev Rautela told Indian Express, "Total 30 deaths in last 48 hours. Apart from the medical centre, the union government has assured the state of all possible assistance, as it has already been providing", the Health Minister added.

Spending on public health in India, relative to the country's GDP, is among the lowest in the world.

Transferts : Feghouli en route pour Galatasary

Stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deeply concerned and has offered complete support, Adityanath said that nobody can be more sensitive than him in the regard.

On the orders of Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath, Health minister Sidharth Narayan Singh and Medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon have rushed to Gorakhpur to take stock of the situation and take remedial measures.

The carelessness has brought up an issue over the prevailing infrastructure in the State-run hospitals in Uttar Pradesh. A committee has been set up to probe the role of the oxygen supplier.

Short of oxygen supply was due to non payment of dues to the company that supplied oxygen.

"There are clearly two dimensions to it, that of criminal culpability of all those who are responsible - the hospital administration, the oxygen supplier and the district administration which is supposed to exercise superintendence over the hospital, and the other is the moral responsibility of the chief minister".

"The delay (in payments) happened because the funds hadn't come in", Dr Misra said at a press conference after his suspension. He also told the opposition not to "politicize" the issue. These children have not died but killed. "This incident took place due to the laxity on the part of the state government". He said that on August 7, 9 deaths have occurred.
