Tech Executives Visit White House Amid Policy Disagreements

White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump gather in the East Room of the White House before President Donald Trump signed a decision memo and a letter to members of Congress outlining a plan for privatizing the nation's air traffic control

Among those attending the meeting are Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Alphabet executive chairman Eric Schmidt, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, and Safra Catz, co-chief executive of Oracle.

What is really more likely is that the they are brown-nosing their way to for lucrative U.S. government contracts which are up for grabs as the government upgrades its computing systems.

The council also wanted to boost the security of the government's IT systems. More recently, he spoke out about Trump's decision to take the United States out of the Paris climate agreement. The CEOs joined the American Technology Council, under its director, Chris Liddell, the White House director of strategic initiatives.

Kushner took time out from his busy schedule of defending himself against allegations in the Russian probe. Few technology specialists from the White House attended.

Of course this will make it easier for spooks and hackers to snuffle but at the moment that some Pentagon legacy systems still rely on floppy disks which makes the material hard for hackers to read.

Among other markets Hong Kong was up 0.1 percent, Shanghai was flat, Sydney fell 0.4 percent and Singapore put on 0.4 percent. Senate Republican leaders postponed a vote on a healthcare overhaul on Tuesday, as they faced resistance from party members.

But much of the goodwill the industry may have been willing to extend the president at the beginning of his term in office has likely already been used up, as the White House has clashed with tech companies on a variety of issues, including immigration, encryption, and climate change.

Tesla's Elon Musk and Disney's Bob Iger may have stepped down from the White House's American Technology Council over policy disagreements with Donald Trump, but 18 of technology's biggest names were still on hand to meet the US President in Washington yesterday. "America should be the global leader in government technology just as we are in every other aspect, and we are going to start our big edge again in technology - such an important industry".

"We have approximately $3.5 trillion of market value in this room - but that's nearly the exact number that we've created since my election", he said to laughter from the attendees, which shows what sort of brown-nosing is going on at this event. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos - who has been a vocal critic of Trump in the past - called on the USA government to take advantage of commercial technology, much like those provided by his own company and others sat at the table.

This is something Cook has publicly discussed before.
