British and Irish Lions claim emphatic win over Chiefs

Gatland has simply blocked out the white noise and kept his eyes on the prize - a Test series victory - something nearly impossible to do in New Zealand.

Despite the absence of nearly all players pencilled in for Saturday's first Test, the Lions were far too good for a similarly understrength Chiefs side missing the likes of Aaron Cruden, Sam Cane and Brodie Retallick on All Blacks duty.

Courtney Lawes was magnificent again in the second row, producing one outrageous tap-tackle and showing a level of physicality that could have seen him picked ahead of Alun-Wyn Jones for the first test.

The sextet of Hill, Dell, Wales' Gareth Davies, Kristian Dacey and Tomos Francis plus Scotland's Finn Russell will stay with the squad for another week and leave the party after next Tuesday's encounter with the Hurricanes.

Rory Best with Nepo Laulala of the Chiefs.

Jerome Garces held the whistle and he will referee the second Test in Wellington. It was a break-out effort, finished by Jack Nowell - his second of the night - and came via several pairs of hands and an appreciation of time and space.

And when the Lions drove through the middle, Nowell sniped home from the base of the ruck.

The match followed the familiar pattern of the tour for the first 60 minutes as the Lions used a dominant set piece, accurate kicking and suffocating defense to wear down their opponents.

The Lions' midweek side had lost out to the Blues and the Highlanders, so were delighted to make amends at Hamilton's FMG Stadium.

When it was suggested that the Lions are capable of putting more pressure on this New Zealand team than they have experienced before, Farrell added: "Hopefully".

Deputies: Woman gives birth to child fathered by 11-year-old
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested a 25-year-old Florida woman they say became impregnated by a young boy in 2014. She was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail and faces a charge of sexual battery with a child under 12, authorities said.

"Firstly, he didn't want to miss it (the first Test)", Foster said.

England lock Lawes came off worst from a nasty-looking clash of heads with team-mate Marler, and departed for a Head Injury Assessment (HIA).

Nowell beat six defenders, more than any other Lion, in a much-improved 80-minute display, which also saw him make 57 metres, in addition to his two tries.

When asked if Daly would feature on Saturday at Eden Park, Gatland acknowledged that it was indeed 'possible, ' either as a starter or as one of the replacements.

Obviously the result of this game matters, but you can argue that it will be more about individual performances on the day than the final result.

Jack Nowell's sparkling try double was the highlight as the Lions scored four tries and kept the Chiefs from crossing the line, further building momentum as the opening test looms on Saturday.

There's no doubt that Daly has put himself firmly in the frame for the Test squad, but Nowell has also put his case forward with his best performance since pulling on the Lions shirt for the first time two weeks' ago.

Daly was immediately replaced, in a potentially telling substitution.

Their involvement in Saturday's Test wasn't ruled out.
